Arbuthnot Latham is the inclusive private bank that offers discretionary investment management, private banking and structured products. Our clients receive a bespoke service from people that have the expertise, experience and autonomy needed to provide it.
- Part of the AIM listed Arbuthnot Banking Group, with a majority shareholder who owns 54%
- A long, distinguished history with roots dating back to 1833
- An independent bank, with particular focus to keeping a strong healthy balance sheet
Discretionary Fund Management
We have devised a method to scientifically map a risk tolerance profile to a mix of assets that would historically have achieved clients’ objectives. This mix provides the Benchmark: a yardstick by which you can measure our performance. We use the answers to this questionnaire to then build a portfolio which incorporates asset classes not available on a direct basis such as commodities, with stock picking by some of the most renowned investment houses and individual Fund Managers. We select only the best in class through our quantitative and qualitative assessment and our suitability analysis.
- Our Investment Team is not owned by a product manufacturer & distributor
- No products to sell means we have no conflicts of interest
- No transaction commissions charged, annual commissions received are rebated back to client
- Our transparent fee structure supports clients’ interests
Financial Security
Our independence means we can make our own decisions and follow our own financial instincts. Arbuthnot Latham has always adopted a conservative business model and strategy and remains financially strong, with the events of 2008 having had little discernible impact. Specifically:
- No involvement with subprime lending, or direct exposure to failed financial institutions
- An extremely strong balance sheet, with a loan to deposit ratio of up to 65%
- We do not depend on money market funding although we do maintain facilities if required
- Our lending is focused on HNW Clients and is well secured against conservative valuations
Our Values
- You can depend on our honesty and integrity
- We are transparent in our dealings with you
- We always have a well-informed opinion
- We are passionate about exceeding your expectations
- We achieve our best results in collaboration with you

Berry Asset Management PLC ('Berry') was established in 1981 as an independent wealth management boutique, and was a pioneer of the multi-asset and multi-manager approach to private client investment management. Berry is a majority owned subsidiary of the innovative and dynamic Bordier & Cie, an international Geneva-based global private banking group, established in 1844 and a member of the four-strong Geneva Private Bankers Association. The firm is located on Pall Mall, St James's at the heart of London's wealth management district.
A privately held company, 30% of the Company's equity rests with its UK management - Jamie MacLeod, Chief Executive Officer of Berry and a member of Bordier & Cie's Group Management Board acquiring a 20% stake in the business in September 2010. The firm is part of a Group which:
- manages total AUM in excess of £6bn
- employs circa 200 staff globally, in private banking and asset management service
- is regulated in numerous jurisdictions, by bodies which include the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore
Despite the firm's low-risk investment approach, Berry has consistently achieved benchmark-beating positive returns.
Industry recognition
The firm has been recognised for the quality of its service and levels of client satisfaction with a number of awards from leading industry organisations over the years, and was most recently declared 'Boutique Wealth Management Firm of the Year 2011' at the prestigious 'Spear's Wealth Management Awards'. In March 2011, the firm received the award for 'Quality and Clarity of Reporting' at the equally prestigious 'PAM (Private Asset Managers) Awards'.

Bestinvest was founded in 1986 to provide private investors with independent analysis of the third party investment funds industry.
Over the past 27 years the group has grown to run over £4bn of assets for a wide variety of private individuals, charities, personal and occupational pension schemes and is widely recognised as a leading provider of independent fund research.
The group’s success in providing independent investment solutions has resulted in the winning of a number of major industry awards including the prestigious Financial Times Wealth Manager of the year in 2011.
Investment Philosophy
We believe that the delivery of consistently good investment performance can only come from the application of a robust, structured and disciplined investment process. As a result
- We are top down asset allocators – we apply a rigorous understanding of the macroeconomic environment to determine portfolio asset allocation
- We apply the principle of diversification in portfolio construction across region, asset class and fund selection
- We utilise both active and passive investment techniques to maximise investment returns
- We believe independent research must sit at the centre of all investment decisions.
- We operate a genuinely open architecture fund selection model
The aim is to produce consistently good, risk adjusted returns through an economic cycle
Investment Process
Our investment process is designed to give clear responsibility and accountability to each stage of the portfolio construction process.
The process is driven by working closely with the client to ensure a mutually agreed set of investment objectives and risk tolerances. As many prospective clients will be investing from cash it is critically important that their tolerance to risk is established at the outset as they may be unwilling to accept the risk associated with a move away from cash.
Responsibilities within the portfolio construction process are as follows:
- The Chief Investment Officer provides the macro economic framework within which investment decisions are made
- The Group’s Investment Committee gives overall guidance on asset allocation to ensure a consistent methodology of portfolio construction
- Funds Research provides due diligence on the universe of investable funds
- The Client – set the parameters on investment objectives, return requirements and risk tolerance
- The Investment manager - interprets these requirements and takes full responsibility and accountability for all investment decisions
- Risk Controls ensure portfolios are constructed with the lowest possible risk for the desired investment outcome
Research
Our research coverage is both comprehensive and wholly independent. We utilise our proprietary Manager Research Index (MRI) which is a measure of performance adjusted for risk. We track fund managers through their career and across a wide variety of different economic conditions. Our intention is to identify those managers that will be best able to provide enhanced returns at any stage of the cycle.
- The provision of independent research is the core of everything we do at Bestinvest.
- We aim to identify the best managers and blend their funds together with passively managed investments to create a portfolio
- We assume active managers do not add value until we can find conclusive evidence to the contrary
- We always look at returns net of all fees
Our aim is to align our fund selection to our macro views:
- Dedicated Research team of 10 with average industry experience of over 10 years
- Carry out over 400 manager interviews per year in the UK and abroad and have a database of over 4000 manager reviews
- Unique quantitative research process using the Manager Research Index (MRI) for performance analysis
- Disaggregation of fund components to allow accurate asset allocation
- Exhaustive style analysis so we understand the underlying risk characteristics of all our investments
- Star Rating System reflects the Research Team’s views on which style of fund is most likely to perform well in the foreseeable future.

We choose from among the best and most suitable investments to meet a client's objectives, whether their priority is growth or capital preservation.
Cheviot is wholly owned by its Partners, most of whom are also Investment Directors, so our clients and their advisers deal directly with the firm's owners and decision-makers.
Personal Service

Each portfolio manager is supported by a dedicated team, to provide clients with continuity and detailed attention to administration. Our emphasis on personalisation includes flexibility to handle out of the ordinary requests, and skills to deal in the broadest range of investments.
A client of Cheviot will always be treated as an individual.
Building and Preserving Wealth

Our portfolio managers will work closely with clients and their advisers to accurately define client needs and expectations. He or she will discuss how you wish to balance risk against security and control against delegation, giving clients the right combination of enjoyment today, and investment for the future. Our approach means that a Cheviot investment portfolio will reflect that balance.
We believe optimal long-term returns are best achieved by investing across a variety of asset classes which, in turn, reduces risk.

Who is Ingenious Asset Management?
Ingenious Asset Management is a modern investment company with a fresh approach. It was established in 2003 with the mandate to deliver a world class wealth management service to individuals involved in the media, accommodating their frequently conservative attitudes to wealth. The investment processes and tools developed have successfully enabled the business to grow from a select few clients to over £1 billion* under management (*As at 31st December 2011).
How is our approach different?
Ingenious believes that clients are not risk averse, they are loss averse. We combine institutional skills that focus on understanding the potential for loss with the high client service standards expected from a boutique firm - two skills that rarely reside in one organisation.
We embrace innovation and have a demonstrable track record of delivering strong risk-adjusted returns to our clients.
Benefits for Financial Advisers:
- An investment process that focuses on protecting wealth
- Adviser retains day to day client relationship. Your client is your client.
- Direct communication to the Investment Director
- Consistency of investment proposition
- Regular portfolio updates including TER, performance, asset allocation information and portfolio probability of loss
- Risk profile mapping to fit with your existing process
- We do not employ financial advisers

In an overcrowded market place, we doubt that any firm can claim to be unique. At Investec Wealth & Investment we have a single aim – to deliver a professional and personal service with consistency of performance and continuity of staff at a fair price.
Investec Wealth & Investment is the result of the amalgamation of some of the oldest names on the London Stock Exchange and our origins date back to the 1820s. Over the last 200 years we have evolved into one of the largest Investment management houses in the UK with eleven offices nationwide. In June 2010 Rensburg Sheppards became a fully owned subsidiary of the Investec Group. From 1st June 2011 Rensburg Sheppards became known as Investec Wealth and Investment Ltd
Why Select Investec Wealth & Investment
We believe the individual needs of each client to be paramount and their investment requirements to be unique. Whilst operating within an asset allocation framework, each client portfolio is constructed on a bespoke basis. This ability to personalise portfolios in this way is critically important when approaching the management of a client’s SIPP. Particularly important is our expertise in rebalancing and managing risk as the client approaches retirement and is looking to consider options such as income drawdown.
Our charging structure is transparent and competitive, and we do not impose strict minimum investment criteria.

Jupiter Private Clients & Charities team is part of Jupiter Asset Management which was established in 1985, although parts of the business date back nearly 200 years. Between 1985 and 1994 Jupiter either grew or acquired the businesses that it has today: charities, retail, institutional and private client mandates either in mutual funds or in segregated accounts. Jupiter currently manages £22.8bn of assets (31 December 2011).
The Jupiter Private Clients & Charities team has been managing assets for over 25 years. The team has seen a growth in assets from £380m at 31 December 2003 to £1.7bn at 31 December 2011. This increase in assets has been due in no small part to our investment performance but also to our long standing relationships with clients and good administration. At the heart of our ethos is delivering long-term outperformance for our clients, without exposing them to undue risk. Through close relationships we seek to fully understand our clients’ aims and objectives and use our investment expertise to help realise them.

Our core values are Service, Independence and Client Focus.
Why appoint Montague Capital?
We believe that by teaming with James Hay Partnership to provide a discretionary management service, we can add significant value to your business and delight your clients. The advantages of working in partnership with Montague Capital are:
- A choice of 5 Actively Managed Strategies designed to meet your business need and match your risk profile and clients' risk appetites.

Investment Product
Our investment solutions are designed around the client and not industry-led benchmarks. The best way to achieve this is to diversify risk and Montague Capital does this through multi-manager, multi-asset class investment. We focus on minimising risk through diversification across a wide range of asset classes. Because of our independence, we are able to select investment funds on a truly unbiased basis.
The investment team's specialist skills are used to create portfolios utilising unit trusts, OEICs, investment trusts and direct equities, as well as more innovative investment vehicles. All client portfolios are managed under the supervision of our Investment Committee. The same active positions are applied across all portfolios, firm wide.
We will provide updates on the portfolios we manage for you and your clients, including commentaries, portfolio updates and access to the fund management team via regular investment reviews.

PFP Wealth Management offers discretionary investment management. This is predicated on a firm belief in the primacy of capital preservation and the generation of absolute, real returns.
Client portfolios may be bespoke or managed to our core discretionary model. In either case they will typically include:
- High quality and objectively creditworthy bonds;
- Defensive and well diversified listed equities and equity funds;
- Uncorrelated funds, specifically systematic trend-following funds;
- Real assets, notably the monetary metals, gold and silver.
Our prevailing objective is to protect and grow our clients’ valuable and often irreplaceable capital.
We utilise one of the most sophisticated trade and execution engines available in the UK. We can invest across onshore funds, direct equities, investment trusts, exchange-traded funds, offshore funds and other investment structures. We are by choice unconstrained in our approach. Our primary benchmark is cash, because cash is the only asset class that cannot decline in nominal terms.
Our discretionary investment management service is run by an award-winning asset manager and a dedicated team with many years of cumulative experience across multiple asset classes.
For more information on the above and services available from our sister companies please visit our website at http://www.pfpg.co.uk.
We have offices in Harrogate and London and we will be delighted to answer any queries you might have about our services.

The Premier Perspective
Premier designs and distributes a diverse range of investment solutions for both retail and institutional clients, including authorised UK mainstream and specialist funds, investment trusts, segregated mandates and discretionary management services. Premier’s core values are independence, relevance and openness. As a company that likes to do things its own way, we pride ourselves on being independent thinking and approachable to both investors and advisers alike, as well as open and forward thinking in all that we do.
In terms of our background and experience, Premier was established over 25 years ago in Guildford, where our headquarters are still based. In fact, Chief Executive Mike O'Shea was there back in 1987. There aren't many investment groups around that can boast having key personnel still in place after 25 years. Indeed, many of the senior team have been at Premier for 15 years or more which makes for a very stable working environment. So, as a company, we understand very well indeed the needs of our investors, our business and the environment in which we operate.
Premier Private Client Portfolio Service
At the beginning of 2011, Premier introduced new innovations regarding the construction of our Private Client Portfolios. A choice of ten risk-rated portfolios to cater for a range of client risk/reward profiles and outcomes were created. The portfolios are made up of a combination of seven specialist Premier funds designed for Private Client Portfolio use. These provide exposure to a broad mix of assets favoured by the Portfolio Management Team.
The model-based portfolios have preserved the method by which we manage client money, whilst providing a clear and simple pricing structure. Using Funds within our portfolio service helps to reduce costs to clients through the removal of VAT as there is no portfolio management fee to pay.
For more information please click here:
http://www.premierfunds.co.uk/ portfolio_management
About the Portfolios
We firmly believe the Premier approach to portfolio construction is far more efficient than holding investments directly. In effect – a traditional discretionary portfolio management service delivered in a highly efficient fund wrapper.
- Premier’s fee is derived from the annual management fee of the underlying funds – there is no additional portfolio management charge. As there is no portfolio management charge, there is also no VAT to pay.
- Highly diversified portfolios providing exposure to a mix of UK and international investment vehicles across the risk/reward spectrum.
- Exposure to other funds managed by well-known UK investment houses.
- Emphasis on capital preservation and risk management for lower risk portfolios.
- Greater Capital Gains Tax (CGT) efficiency as the management of the underlying assets within the Premier funds is free of CGT.
- Invests in specialist Premier funds to maximise tax and charges efficiency.
- Active and dynamic day to day portfolio management.
- Managed by experienced and established discretionary managers with many years combined knowledge and expertise.
Whatever your clients’ long term financial goals, we believe that our ten carefully constructed portfolios provide a solution to meet the different investment objectives and risk profiles of today’s investor.

Quartet Capital Partners – What we do
Quartet’s sole focus is on providing creative investment solutions for high net worth private clients and their associated entities across the globe.
We are not experts in everything, and work alongside a client’s advisers to meet their overall financial objectives.
A few key points about us:
- Client focused. Our clients are the focal point of the business and we spend a great deal of time, in conjunction with their advisers, trying to understand their goals.
- Bespoke portfolios. Each client’s circumstances are unique, so we do not believe in shoehorning clients into predetermined investment solutions. As a consequence, all portfolios are tailored to meet the client’s unique requirements.
- Asset allocation. Studies have shown that asset allocation is the biggest driver behind investment performance. We derive a Strategic Asset Allocation for each client and adjust this tactically to try and maximise risk adjusted returns. This is where we believe we add significant value.
- Investments. As few active fund managers beat their benchmark, passive investments are used for core portfolio positions. This also keeps portfolio costs down. Satellite active holdings are included to try and produce the best risk adjusted returns (or add alpha). All portfolios are managed on a multi-asset basis to diversify risk.
- Alignment of interests. Partners and their families are amongst the firm’s largest clients and their portfolios are managed in the same manner as external clients. They also pay the same fees!
Whatever the client situation we will tailor our investment offering to suit a client’s requirements.

Redmayne-Bentley is a full service stockbroking and investment management firm, providing an essential service to financial advisers in particular when trying to fulfil clients’ income needs.
Managing to consistently generate sufficient returns to meet the maximum GAD requirements can be difficult, but we aim to achieve this through income, thus negating the need to eat into the remaining capital, through investment in direct equities, bonds, funds and selected use of alternative investments where appropriate.
A similar approach using funds alone is taken when investing to meet the 5 per cent withdrawal requirements from investment bonds, and alternative strategies aimed at capital growth. These can be employed for clients in the earlier contributory stages of a SIPP.
Portfolios are tailored to the requirements of the individual by a dedicated investment manager, based upon an assessment of the client’s objectives and attitude to risk. This also allows for customised reporting frequencies and distribution of these reports (to you, or your client, or both) and performance comparisons with mutually agreed benchmarks.
Established in 1875, Redmayne-Bentley is one of the UK’s largest independent stockbrokers with over 30 branches nationwide. With an investment management team spanning this branch network we aim to provide a quality service, built on trust and mutual understanding, at a local level.
Please remember, investments and income can fall as well as rise in value; therefore, capital is at risk.
